Climate Surveys

PII assists educational entities with investigative research (Climate Surveys) separate from violations of law or internal policies. We have conducted Climate Surveys of individual departments to gather information about employee dissatisfaction, interviewed recently separated employees to determine reasons for departures, and collected information about alleged compliance breaches. PII works closely with management to customize its work to address the specific needs of each workplace.

After developing a research plan, PII:

  • Conducts interviews in-person, using video-conferencing, or by telephone.
  • Makes site visits.
  • Catalogues and reviews documents.
  • Conducts background research on complex topics.
  • Designs and maintains databases.
  • Presents research findings.

Recent Matters

A high-tech research facility at a graduate program retained PII to explore allegations of bullying and mismanagement by the facility’s director. Numerous employees at both the management and staff level complained about the conduct of the director. The allegations of shouting, favoritism, and mishandling of documentation leading to a negative work environment were not tied to any protected category.
A Southern California hospital retained PII to interview the staff of its pharmacy department when management suspected low employee morale was causing problems. PII found that the perceived job dissatisfaction was largely non-existent. However, the interviews uncovered a different problem related to the pharmacy’s compliance with state and federal laws, which management moved quickly to correct.
