A leading seminary offering master’s and doctoral degrees in theology, psychology, and ministry retained Public Interest Investigations to investigate alleged sexual misconduct by an assistant professor at the school.
Local ministers in an “accountability group” with the professor, who also is a pastor, had alerted the Seminary that he had admitted to secretly practicing polygamy with his student at a different seminary. The professor justified his behavior to the other ministers by stating that polygamy is permitted in the Bible. The professor denied the allegations
The Seminary’s standards state that “faculty must ‘abstain from … unbiblical sexual practices,’ including all ‘explicit sexual conduct’ outside of marriage and that marriage is a ‘covenant union between one man and one woman.’” Hence, they contacted us to investigate the allegations.
As workplace investigators, we investigate matters spanning the full spectrum of human behavior and must remain neutral, regardless of the alleged misconduct. Our experienced investigator delivered a neutral investigation and comprehensive report to the Seminary by skillfully employing proven interviewing techniques and deep analytical skills with intense focus.
The Seminary fired the accused professor after we presented our report.
Christianity Today published two articles detailing this matter:
- Seminary Professor Accused of Secret Second Marriage
- Vince Bantu Fired After Fuller Seminary Investigation
